Backpacks, water bottles and hats are a must!

We had a couple of friends recommend downloading this app ahead of time. You do have to purchase the Yellowstone guide for $19.99 but it is 100% worth the price and does not ever expire. We nicknamed the guide, Chatty, and loved all he had to tell us about Yellowstone. From historical to scientific facts, we learned so much. Chatty told us about good pull off spots, excellent lookouts and must-see spots. The kids all loved listening to Chatty and it was often very quiet in the car as they were listening so intently.

FYI: You do need to download the app & Yellowstone guidance ahead of time because the cellphone service is horrible in the park.

Kids’ Pocket Travel Guides

I found the coolest folded, laminated pocket cards on Amazon for this trip for the kids. They have lots of different ones, so I chose ones that would be the most applicable to this trip.

Yellowstone Animals

Birds of Prey

Animal Tracks

(I also got an Oregon Coast one for the last leg of our journey)

Kids’ Shoulder/sling Bags

My kids love to pack treasures. All of their treasures. I wanted to limit the amount of things that they brought with us, so I got each of them a small sling bag off of Amazon. They could fit in their laminated travel guides and a small snack or two and still carry them themselves- they were great!
